Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has resigned from his position.
He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during a Cabinet meeting held in Baluwatar on Monday evening.
“The Cabinet meeting just concluded, and the home minister has also resigned,” a minister told Setopati.
Gen Z youths held protests in Kathmandu and other major cities across the country on Monday against corruption and the ban of several social media platforms.
During the protests, 19 people were killed in Kathmandu and Itahari.
Nepali Congress General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma had urged Home Minister Lekhak to resign during a party meeting held in Budhanilkantha on Monday evening.
In that meeting, Home Minister Lekhak expressed his sorrow over Monday’s events and stated that he would resign on moral grounds. Immediately afterward, he went to Baluwatar and resigned from his post.
