The Supreme Court has sought a written response from Narayan Kaji Shrestha, senior vice-chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center), in a contempt of court case.
On Tuesday, a bench of Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Shreekanta Paudel ordered Shrestha to furnish a written response.
A law student, Ayush Dahal, had filed the contempt case against Shrestha in the Supreme Court on Monday.
Shrestha is accused of committing contempt of court for a post he made on social media on August 22.
"The current state of the judiciary is such that no Nepali who approaches the court seeking justice can hope to get justice if they cannot influence the judge through contacts, or offer bribes," Shrestha wrote in the post.
Conducting a preliminary hearing on the case on Tuesday, the court ordered Shrestha to submit a written response.
The petitioner had also demanded that Shrestha be presented in court to record his statement and that the post be removed from social media.
