The personal security officers (PSOs) of three lawmakers from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have been recalled simultaneously.
The PSOs of RPP Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi and lawmakers Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and Deepak Singh have been recalled.
Shahi informed Setopati about the withdrawal of their security.
“The PSOs have been recalled, but this is not a matter of concern for me,” he said. “However, we don’t know the reason behind the withdrawal.”
He said that the PSOs of two other RPP lawmakers have also been recalled.
Another RPP lawmaker also confirmed that their PSOs have been recalled.
“The security provided to us has been withdrawn,” the lawmaker said. “But no information was provided as to why.”
Since Shahi is the chief whip, Singh is the head of the infrastructure development committee, and Pradhan is a former inspector general of police (IGP), they had been provided PSOs as per protocol.
When asked about this, Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Thapa, central spokesperson for Nepal Police, said that the PSOs might have been called for a routine briefing.
“We occasionally call all PSOs for briefings based on security sensitivity. This could be the reason they were called,” he said.
