The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact has been included in the schedule for House meeting today.
The meeting of business advisory committee held before the House meeting today has prepared the schedule that includes tabling of the MCC Compact.
The MCC Compact will be tabled for ratification in the House meeting today, according to Spokesperson with the Federal Parliament Secretariat Roj Nath Pandey. The business advisory committee meeting, however, did not discuss about holding discussion on the MCC Compact.
Preparations are on to call the next House meeting on February 24 and hold discussion on the MCC Compact.
The meeting of top coalition leaders held earlier on Sunday agreed to table the MCC Compact in the House.
The then KP Sharma Oli government had registered a motion for ratification of the MCC Compact in the House in June 2019. But speakers Krishna Bahadur Mahara and then Agni Sapkota, both of whom won the last general election on Maoist ticket, did not allow tabling of the MCC Compact in the House even after registration of the motion due to internal dispute in the then ruling CPN.
All the parties in the ruling coalition agreed to table the MCC Compact in the House after a protracted dispute earlier Sunday. CPN (Maoist Center) finally agreed to table it concluding it alone cannot block it when all other patries in the coalition are ready.
Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba had clearly told the coalition leaders that the coalition will end if it does not agree to table the MCC Compact.
