CPN standing committee member Beduram Bhusal has stated that KP Sharma Oli cannot continue in the dual role of prime minister and party chairman.
"Party chairman is a stronger post than prime minister, from the perspective of party. The party statute applies even for the chairman," Bhusal told Setopati. "The statute says one major responsibility. The work of government is also a major work of party. The party has made the government."
He pointed that giving executive party post to a chief minister also violates the party statute, and argued that the government should also run in accordance to the party policy as the people voted CPN to power.
"I am personally in support of that. The party should run in accordance to the statute. The problems have arisen as the party did not run in accordance to the statute. We have continuously raised the issue. We will raise the issue even this time," he said ahead of the standing committee meeting called for Wednesday.
He said that the agenda for the meeting has not been set but added that it will evaluate the work of both the party and the government, and whether past decisions have been implemented or not.
He opined that the meeting will also discuss the issue of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and take decision, and revealed that he personally wants the MCC to be passed only after some changes.
