India has stopped all kinds of export through Kakarbhitta border point.
Export from the border point was formally stopped since the start of lockdown but the businessmen were exporting through consensus in the intervening period. Trucks leaving with tea, cardamom and amriso (broom grass) for India and Bangladesh have now been stopped in the Mechi bridge since Thursday.
"All the goods from Nepal have been stopped. Around 25 trucks have been stopped at the Mechi bridge," Director General of the Department of Customs Suman Dahal said. He added that imports continue despite the ban in export.
The West Bengal government had banned export from Nepal at the start of lockdown. The trucks, that had left in hope that they will be allowed with relaxation of lockdown, have been stopped.
He revealed that the government has been discussing with the West Bengal government to ease export.
The border point is used especially for export of agricultural products.
