A special parliamentary committee will be formed to study the Chaurjahari incident.
Speaker Agni Sapkota during the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Friday informed the lawmakers that a special committee will be formed to study the incident and submit the report to the House.
The main opposition Nepali Congress(NC) has been demanding a special parliamentary committee to probe the incident. NC whip Pushpa Bhusal during the meeting Friday expressed doubt that the government may cover up the incident. "Political cover-up of the incident that discriminated Dalits is not acceptable. There should be no impunity on the basis of any political cover," she stated.
Six youths of Jajarkot were killed when Nawaraj BK, 21, of Bheri municipality 4, Jajarkot went with 18 others to elope with his 17-year-old girlfriend of Chaurjahari-8, Soti on May 23. Six of them including Nawaraj BK had dived into the Thuli Bheri river at the border of Jajarkot and Western Rukum to save their life after the locals including the girl's family thrashed them.
Bodies of all the six youths have since been recovered from the river.
The victims' families have claimed that the girl's father and others including ward chairman of Chaurjahari-8 Dammar Bahadur Malla chased their sons and murdered them.
The police have charged 20 persons in the case and arrested 18 out of them including ward chairman Dammar Bahadur Malla.
