Socialist Party Nepal has claimed that its lawmaker Surendra Yadav has been able to free himself from abduction.
Central member of the party and head of its communication department Bishwodeep Pandey has said so tweeting a picture of him having tea with Yadav Thursday morning. "Lawmaker Yadav telling me how he was abducted yesterday evening, the troubles he got from the administration, what the PM told him over the phone and how he fled from the hotel in the morning," Pandey has tweeted along with the picture.
He revealed that senior leader Ashok Rai has gone to Kathmandu Marriott Hotel in Naxal to rescue the abducted party lawmakers and provide guardianship.
The plan to split the party with the government's blessings seems to have failed for now after lawmaker Yadav quit the group of seven lawmakers that had decided to split the party.
Socialist has 17 seats in the House of Representatives and it would take seven lawmakers to make 40 percent of the parliamentary party.
The government, as now has become clear, brought an ordinance on Monday with an intention of engineering the split in Socialist Party allowing splitting of a party with support of 40 percent in either the parliamentary party or the central committee. The act about political parties requires support of 40 percent in both the parliamentary party and the central committee to split any political party.
Pandey also added that Socialist Chairman Baburam Bhattarai is talking with Renu Yadav who led the effort to split and lawmaker Mohammad Ishtiaq Rai in the morning to try to take the situation under control.
The party had accused the government of abducting lawmaker Surendra Yadav on Wednesday but the group led by Renu Yadav had claimed that he is coming to Kathmandu as he is also in the group that wants to split the party.
Socialist Party hastily announced unification with Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) late Wednesday night to prevent the split after becoming aware of the plan of septet.
The new party will be named Janata Samajwadi and will use the flag of Socialist Party and election symbol of RJP, umbrella. Mahantha Thakur will be the top ranked leader.
