Some CPN central committee members gave the dinner party hosted by Prime Minister (PM) and CPN Chairman KP Sharma Oli at his official residence Baluwatar Sunday night a miss.
PM Oli had thrown the party to CPN lawmakers and central committee members to foster camaraderie among lawmakers and central members, according to central member Karna Bahadur Thapa.
While CPN whip Shanta Chaudhary texted the party lawmakers about the invitation Sunday noon, PM Oli invited the central members at the end of his speech while concluding the central committee meeting in the evening.
But central members including Rajendra Rai, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Lekh Nath Neupane, Thakur Gaire and Hem Raj Bhandari did not attend the party.
"We raised so many questions about wealth and behavior of our leaders during the central committee meeting. How could we attend the party hosted at the government residence immediately after the meeting? My morality did not let me go there," a central committee member confided with Setopati. "I fail to understand what kind of message is being given by hosting a party with taxpayers' money."
Central member Neupane said he did not attend the party due to his habit. "I had not attended the party hosted at Baluwatar after party unification as well. People want there to be no extravagance in the party. I also like that idea. I cannot stop such activities with my status and the least I could do was to not attend the party," he elaborated revealing that he does not attend even wedding and other parties.
Another central member Rajendra Rai said he did not attend the party as he does not have a vehicle to return late in the night.
