Govt to bring land bill incorporating guthi bill

The government will bring new land bill also incorporating guthi bill.

Addressing the weekly press conference on Thursday, Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokula Baskota said the Land Management Ministry has been given consent in principle to bring the new land bill.

"There are issues about land of guthi while there are also issues of constitutional rights and productivity," Baskota stated. "The ministry has been given consent in principle to increase scientific use of the land and bring integrated bill about land."

The government earlier had brought a separate bill about guthis (community trusts).

But it had to withdraw the bill following massive protests in the Kathmandu Valley. Newar communities in all three districts of the Kathmandu Valley opposed the bill complaining that the government is trying to destroy their culture and tradition.
