The ruling CPN has made Pushpa Kamal Dahal chairman with executive rights.
The secretariat meeting held at the prime minister's residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday has taken the decision to that regard, according to CPN Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
The party formed after unification of the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) had made both KP Sharma Oli and Dahal chairmen. But Oli was ranked top and wielded the executive rights.
The party will continue to have two chairmen and the previous ranking will remain. But Dahal will now lead the party and Oli the government. Dahal will chair party meetings and operate the party. Shrestha stressed that Oli will lead the government through the current term of House of Representatives.
Oli and Dahal would be of similar ranking, and will operate both the party and the government through mutual agreement.
