Federal Council Chairman of Socialist Party Nepal Baburam Bhattarai has stated that victory for the ruling CPN in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 30 will promote autocracy and fascism in the country.
Presenting a report in the federal council meeting of the party that started in Kathmandu on Thursday, he also opined that the by-election will be a barometer to measure the people's verdict on the CPN government. "If the people's mandate comes in favor of CPN even after such incompetence, corruption and inaction, that will promote autocracy and fascism. That will not be in anyone's interest," Bhattarai stated.
The Socialist Party is contesting in the by-elections for one federal constituency, three provincial ones and a few local bodies. "This is the first election after unification. The effect of unification should be reflected in some ways in the result. Win and loss may be one thing but we should not leave any stone unturned in mobilization for the election, improvement in votes and effort to win as far as possible," he opined.
He claimed that Socialist Party will not just be a third party but a third pole in terms of ideology. "Questions will be raised about the third pole and the campaign for an alternative party if the people's mandate were to again come for the old parties like Nepali Congress and CPN. Our party should, therefore, take this by-election as an important struggle," he stressed.
