The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) will field local candidate for the by-election in the federal constituency of Kaski-2 scheduled for November 30.
Central member Dhan Raj Gurung, a resident from Syangja district, has been lobbying for the ticket but a meeting of NC office-bearers held at President Sher Bahadur Deuba's residence on Wednesday has decided to field local candidate.
"Dhan Raj Gurung attended the office-bearer meeting and recommended that local leaders be considered for candidacy," NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma told Setopati.
The local unit of NC has sent a list of 16 probable candidates to the center for the constituency. Khem Raj Paudel, Dev Raj Chalise and Krishna Karki are considered front-runners for the ticket.
The party has yet to decide its candidates for the constituency and three provincial assembly seats with just one day left to file nominations.
The NC office-bearers have authorized President Deuba to select candidates. Deuba is expected to finalize candidates after holding discussion with senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel and former general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula.
There will be by-election for 50 positions including Kaski-2 for the House of Representatives (HoR) vacant after death of the then minister for culture, tourism and civil aviation Rabindra Adhikari, three constituencies of provincial assemblies, and local bodies.
