Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has arrived in Kathmandu Sunday afternoon. Secretary at the Foreign Ministry Shankar Das Bairagi welcomed Wang at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
Wang, who arrived on a chartered flight, is expected to remain in Kathmandu till Tuesday afternoon. A foreign Ministry source said Wang will start political meetings only from Monday.
He is scheduled to meet President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli, CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba among others during his stay in Nepal.
Nepal and China will also hold bilateral meeting on Monday, and a few agreements and memorandum of understanding may be signed during the meeting. Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali said the two countries will discuss about ways to take economic and development partnership forward.
He added that discussions will also be held on Nepal visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping. "This is the right time for top Chinese leadership to visit Nepal," he opined. "Arrival of the top leadership from a close friend like China will be a matter of encouragement for us at a time when we are looking to tread the path of economic development."
