The government has provided Rs 250 million to the Election Commission (EC) to hold by-election scheduled for November 30.
"The EC had demanded Rs 390 million but received Rs 250 million from the government," EC Spokesperson Shankar Prasad Kharel confirmed. "But by-election will not be affected merely for not receiving expenses as demanded. The EC can again ask for money from the government if the budget is not sufficient," he pointed.
There will be by-election for 50 positions including Kaski-2 for the House of Representatives (HoR) vacant after death of the then minister for culture, tourism and civil aviation Rabindra Adhikari, three constituencies of provincial assemblies, and local bodies.
The EC is updating the voter list for the by-election. It is also preparing schedule for election programs, opening offices for election. It has already urged the political parties to register parties.
