The Supreme Court (SC) has revoked the writ petition filed against the Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (BIPPA) signed with India when Baburam Bhattarai was the prime minister (PM).
A joint bench including Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, and Justices Deepak Raj Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise and Hari Krishna Shrestha has revoked the petition filed eight years back.
The BIPPA with India was signed during the India visit of the then PM Bhattarai in 2011. It was signed by the then industry minister Anil Kumar Jha and his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee in presence of Bhattarai and Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.
The agreement was criticized by many and senior advocate Bal Krishna Neupane had moved the SC against it. The SC hearing the petition then had instructed the government to not immediately implement the agreement.
