Parties have advised the Election Commission (EC) to hold by-elections by mid-December.
The majority of 18 political parties that are represented at the federal, provincial and local levels have advised so during a meeting with the EC on Thursday.
"Most of the political parties have said it would be better to hold by-elections in December," EC Spokesperson Shankar Prasad Kharel told Setopati. "The EC will now announce election date in coordination with the government."
By-elections will have to be held for 50 vacant positions, according to the EC.
One should be held for the House of Representatives (HoR) in Kaski 3 vacant after death of CPN's Rabindra Adhikari in helicopter crash in Taplejung on February 27.
Similarly, three seats in provincial assemblies are also vacant after death of Tek Bahadur Gharti elected from Baglung 2(B) in Gandaki, Uttar Kumar Oli of Dang 3(B) of Province 5, and Hari Sharan Lamichhane of Bhaktapur 1(B) in Province 3.
Dharan Sub-metropolitan City is also without mayor following death of Tara Subba. Similarly, three rural municipalities are without chairman, one without deputy chairman, and 41 wards in 36 districts without chairman, according to Kharel.
