The Development and Technology Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR) on Friday has passed the clause about clean feed in the advertisement regulation bill meaning Nepalis will not have to watch foreign advertisements on television.
The existing service-providers, however, will get one year to complete homework for clean feed after the act comes into implementation, according to Chairman of the committee Kalyani Khadka. The new ones will have to implement clean feed immediately after the act comes into force.
The existing service-providers will have to go for clean feed within a year irrespective of the length of their agreement with foreign channels. They will have to automatically go for clean feed if their agreement has to be renewed before one year.
Clause-wise discussion on the advertisement regulation bill started in the HoR from Friday. A few lawmakers had registered amendment proposals to remove the provision of clean feed but the proposals were rejected after discussion.
The lawmakers, however, will get to register differing opinion even after discussion on the bill.
The bill will go to the National Assembly after it is passed by the HoR. It will come into force after being passed by the National Assembly as well.
