Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has returned to Kathmandu after staying four days in the plains devastated by the recent floods.
Deuba had gone to Province 2 on Wednesday after the House of Representatives (HoR) was adjourned until Tuesday instead of discussing the urgent motion of public importance registered by the party to discuss the losses due to floods and focus on rescue and relief works.
The main opposition leader visited Rautahat, Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts, and listened to flood victims in those districts. "We collected information about the problems faced by flood victims after reaching their place," Deuba's associate Bhanu Deuba told Setopati.
Deuba did not discuss much about the party and organization during his Madhes visit this time. "We also monitored whether relief and rescue works are being done in a well-managed manner or not," Bhanu Deuba added.
NC President Deuba during the visit with victims commented that the federal government is not sensitive toward the plight of victims. "The ministers returned after inspecting from a chopper. We conducted field visits. The government is not sensitive toward the victims and did not allow discussion in the House," Deuba had told victims in Siraha affected by Kamala river.
Deuba opined that the government should take diplomatic initiative with India on the issue of inundation in Gaur Bazar of Rautahat due to embankments constructed unilaterally by India on its side.
The NC parliamentary party has already decided to donate the five-day salary of its lawmakers for the flood victims.
