Police constable, Chand cadre killed in gunfight in Bhojpur

A police constable and a cadre of Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN have been killed in a gunfight in Bhojpur Bazar Wednesday morning.

A police team in plain-clothes was on patrol of Bhojpur Bazar on the day of weekly market. Sanjeev Rai, one of the team, was shot at around 8:30 in the morning as a group of around five Chand cadres attacked the team.

"A Chand cadre was killed when a police constable opened fire after seeing his colleague shot," Chief District Officer (CDO) of Bhojpur Nur Hari Khatiwada told Setopati.

The deceased cadre has been identified as Okhaldhunga incharge of the party Nir Kumar Rai.

Both the police constable and Chand cadre were killed on the spot. CDO Khatiwada claimed that the police team was attacked from behind.

Security in the area has been beefed up after the attack while Province 1 police has sent reinforcements there.
