The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has urged the government to seek resolution through dialogue with Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN.
Holding a press conference a day after the government banned activities of Chand-led party on Tuesday, NC, however, has supported the government for its seriousness in maintaining law and order. "We are well aware of the government's necessity to maintain law and order for security of citizens," NC Spokesperson Bishwo Prakash Sharma said. "But dialogue, consensus and cooperation are needed for long-term resolution of the problem. This is the beauty of democracy."
The party has stated that it will not oppose the government's efforts to maintain law and order.
NC has also urged the government to correct the second point in the 11-point agreement signed with CK Raut on Friday. "We have strong reservation about the second point in the agreement that mentions 'people's mandate' that can hint at referendum," Sharma stated. "The government should correct that."
The party has said there are alternatives of the government and Raut making same interpretation of the term 'people's mandate' that can also hint at referendum, or correcting the point.
