Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen Tham Maya Thapa has insisted that social awareness and transformation was essential to bring all rights of women into practices.
In her address to a program organized by the Federation of the Forest Users’ Nepal (FECOFUN), marking the 109th International Women's Day, the minister said women continued to be subjected to inhumane treatment and socio-cultural harmful practices even in the 21st century and social transformation was a must to abolish them.
With the successful democratic movements at home, the Nepalese society made advancement towards the rights of women and the constitution had guaranteed multiple rights of women and the government was focused on enacting laws required to implement such rights.
According to her, prosperity of women, over half population, is precondition to make the government’s commitment for happy Nepali and prosperous Nepal.
President of Sustainable Development and Good Governance Committee, National Assembly, Taradevi Bhatta was of the view that strengthening of local and province governments was possible if only local communities were empowered, underlining the need of local’s rights to natural resources.
President of National Concerned and Coordination Committee, National Assembly, Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa (Parbati) pledged her cooperation to incorporate issues raised by the FECOFUN in regard with women’s rights the policies formulation process.
FECOFUN president Bharati Pathak presided over the program.
