Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJP) has withdrawn its support for the KP Sharma Oli government after an emergency meeting on Wednesday.
Coordinator of the chairman council of the party Mahendra Raya Yadav told Setopati that the support has been withdrawn after the deal made with the party was not implemented even in a year. "Our demands have not been addressed. We have, therefore, withdrawn the support," Yadav stated.
The party's lawmaker from Kailali-1 Resham Chaudhary was sentenced for life by the Kailali District Court earlier on Wednesday for his involvement in the Tikapur incident in which eight police personnel including an SSP of Nepal Police and a toddler were lynched on August 24, 2015.
But Yadav said the party's decision has nothing to do with Chaudhary's conviction. "The court gave its decision on Resham Chaudhary. A democratic party respects the court's decision in rule of law," he stated. "Withdrawing support is a different issue. It is not related to the case."
The party had convened the emergency meeting immediately after the Kailali District Court slapped the life sentence on Chaudhary.
