The only lawmaker in the provincial assembly of Province 3 from Naya Shakti Party Nepal did not join Nepali Congress (NC) for fear of losing the post of lawmaker.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, General Secretary Shashank Koirala, and other central leaders including Prakash Sharan Mahat, Bishwo Prakash Sharma and Gagan Thapa had reached Rasuwa on a chartered chopper on Monday to usher in Prem Tamang, but Tamang did not turn up at the program held at Kalikasthan in the district.
The NC leaders returned to Kathmandu after welcoming a few other leaders and cadres of Naya Shakti.
Tamang has not commented on why he did not join NC but sources close to him claim that he stepped back due to the risk of losing the post of lawmaker on joining NC.
If the party on whose ticket a person is elected as provincial lawmaker informs that the lawmaker has quit the party, the position of provincial assembly remains vacant, according to the constitution.
Tamang was elected on a Naya Shakti ticket as per the electoral alliance with NC.
