Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who apologized for not being able to offer delicious meals during the recent mahasamiti meeting, invited district presidents to his residence in Budhanilkantha for high tea Monday morning.
"You did not get to eat good food during the cold season. I want to apologize if I committed any mistake," Deuba said on Sunday while concluding the mahasamiti meeting that extended to nine days. "I did not get time to give a treat in the evening in any of those days."
Deuba invited 40 district presidents, who are also mahasamiti members, to his residence less than 12 hours after apologizing in the evening. Deuba had also thrown a dinner banquet for the mahasamiti members on December 15.
He also invited senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel for the high tea on Monday.
NC President Deuba and senior leader Paudel, who had refused to even join hands during the inauguration of the mahasamiti meeting, have come together now. Deuba and Paudel, who gave a message of unity during the concluding session on Sunday, continued in the same vein even during the one and half hours-long high tea.
"An excellent party statute has been passed. Let us all now focus on expanding membership," Deuba told the district presidents. "Let us focus on organizational expansion without even sleeping. I will also visit villages for expansion of organization. You also work hard for that," Deuba instructed the district presidents to expand party organization in a way to become the largest party in the next general election.
"The party is now completely united. We must come first in the next election. Let us expand the organization for that," he stated.
Speaking after president Deuba, Paudel urged the district presidents to forget the factional bitterness of the past and focus on expansion of organization. "There is no alternative to moving forward together. We must all be united," Paudel said. "We can raise questions about the bad performance of the government and expand organization only if the party is united."
President of Nuwakot Congress Jagdish Narsingh KC told Setopati that the top party leaders are united and the presidents will now focus on expansion of membership and strengthening organization.
