CPN General Secretary Bishnu Paudel has supported the proposal of standing committee member Lila Mani Pokharel for live broadcast of meetings of the party.
"I support the proposal of Lila Mani Pokharel for live telecast of party's meetings," Paudel has mentioned in his written opinion presented to the ongoing standing committee meeting. "The discussions and decisions taken in meetings have been misrepresented, and information about the meetings is being taken to the media in distorted forms."
He has argued that the cadres and people will get the true information and there will be no confusions if there is live telecast of meetings. "We will have to allow entry of media persons in our central committee, standing committee and secretariat meetings if we want to stop unofficial and false reporting of the discussions and decisions taken in those meetings," Paudel has proposed.
"We should make arrangements for them to stay throughout the meetings and disseminate news. This will reduce chances of distortion of news on the one hand while the speakers will also have to speak in a responsible manner," he reasoned.
Paudel's proposal to make the speakers responsible was a dig at standing committee member Ghanashyam Bhusal who commented that factionalism prevails in the party.
Bhusal had sarcastically stated that the leaders of the factions conduct tests of even 'saliva, sputum and semen' to determine whether the cadres are from their faction or not. "It is shameful to listen to and see presentation of some of the languages used. Comrades apparently conduct blood, sputum and what not (that cannot be expressed in words). Where do the comrades have such a laboratory?" Paudel has questioned.
It seems Paudel has supported the proposal for live telecast of meetings to take a dig at Bhusal. Bhusal and Paudel both do politics in Rupendehi and were elected deputy general secretary in the last general convention of the then CPN-UML from Madhav Nepal and KP Sharma Oli panels respectively. Bhusal had secured 1,097 votes and Paudel 1,082.
But Paudel has now become the powerful general secretary and secretariat member of CPN after party unification while Bhusal is not even in the nine-strong secretariat.
Paudel has defended the political report jointly presented by chairman duo Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal and criticized the standing committee members who have raised questions against the report during the ongoing standing committee meeting.
"The standing committee meeting is being convened after five months. Why does one need to say seven months? We have become able to reach the sea and third countries through Chinese land. Why can't we say land-connected? Why do we put forward the conditions about relevance of the transit treaty with China when we call it worth welcoming? Is that treaty of the nature to be supported only with conditions? Why can't we trust that those who signed on the protocol have done that for implementation?" he has written slamming the standing committee members who criticized the report and the government.
While conceding there has been delay in party unification at the provincial and local levels, Paudel has claimed that the government has done good job. Pointing that the party statute has been formulated in consensus after unification, he advised the members to not wish for one like that of the then UML.
