Forty-three central committee members of the ruling CPN have demanded revocation of political appointments of corrupt and controversial persons.
The central members writing a letter addressing the chairman duo KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal have demanded the issue of political appointments of corrupt persons like Digambar Jha and decoration of corrupt and controversial persons through the president on the government’s recommendation be discussed in the ongoing standing committee member, and the appointments be revoked.
They have concluded that appointments of corrupt and controversial persons against the government’s policy of zero tolerance against corruption, and Prime Minister (PM) Oli’s announcement that he will not do corruption and also not allow others to do so have seriously hit the government’s image and popularity.
“We also humbly request the party to give necessary instructions to the government to immediately dismiss corrupt and controversial individuals like Digambar Jha,” the letter reads.
They have also reminded how they drew the attention of the party’s top leadership toward the burning political issues and campaign against corruption in their earlier memorandum letter.
They have pointed how companies like Ncell are blatantly evading tax and not helping the government. “It is necessary to immediately start campaign to cut on such incidents of institutional corruption and bring them to the book. Let it be started by dismissal of people of corrupt image who have received political appointments,” the letter adds.
Central members including Krishna KC, Thakur Gaire, Madhav Aryal, Bhaskar Kafle, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Jaganath Khatiwada, Dr Bijay Kumar Paudel among others have signed the letter in person and 36 others have supported it through electronic medium.
The government on September 6 had appointed Jha as chairman of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA).
CPN General Secretary Bishnu Paudel speaking to Setopati a few weeks back had stated that Jha is not indispensable for the government and NTA.
