The two-day meeting of district presidents of the main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has ended at Kakani of Nuwakot issuing a 38-point declaration.
The district presidents have put 24 points of recommendations for the proposed federal statute and drawn the party’s attention toward the current political situation in 14 other points.
Organizer of the meeting and president of Nuwakot Congress Jagadish Narsingh KC said the meeting featuring 64 of the 75 district presidents mainly focused on the party statute.
The meeting has advised the party to mention in the statute that the local board will allot election tickets during local election, provincial board in the provincial election and central board in the federal election.
The district presidents have also recommended for addition of honorable members. The party currently has general and active membership. They have also suggested that presidents of all levels must be ex-officio member of the immediately higher level.
“There should also be a provision allowing the presidents of the districts and the center to nominate a spokesperson,” KC revealed about the recommendations.
The district presidents have also demanded levy be collected from active members and those in a position of benefits due to the party.
“We have welcomed the provision in the draft statute to revoke the provision that allows the candidates who lose the elections for central membership and federal parliament to become general convention and constituency representative,” he added.
The district presidents have also slammed the KP Sharma Oli government for failing to punish those guilty in rape and murder of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur. They have also drawn the attention of the government toward unnatural hike in tax rate and demanded correction.
They have also accused the government of interference in judiciary, media, and abuse of the state coffers.
