The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has proposed one person, one post in its amended statute.
Spokesperson of the committee to draft amended statute Ramesh Lekhak said the proposal has been made to ensure no one gets dual responsibility in the party.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who is also the parliamentary party leader now, will have to resign from one of the posts if the provision is endorsed.
The draft statute has also proposed eight tiers of structure in the party from the central level to the grassroots, according to Lekhak.
The local committees have been authorized to decide candidacy for the local elections while not more than three contenders can be recommended for candidacy in any election.
Coordinator of the committee to draft amended statute and NC General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka presented the draft statute, prepared after discussions with party cadres and leaders for three months, for discussion during the central committee meeting at the party office in Sanepa on Sunday.
Each central committee member has been provided with a copy of the draft statute for study. The central committee will again meet on Thursday for additional discussions on the amended statute.
