Health of Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli is improving and he has started to work from the hospital bed itself. The Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center inside the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) premises where he is undergoing treatment since Monday morning issuing a statement said test reports have returned satisfactory but the doctors don't seem to be in a mood to discharge him soon.
PM Oli's personal doctor Divya Singh said he will be discharged only Thursday evening or Friday morning at the earliest. "We will study all of his reports. We have used antibiotics. He has started some work from hospital," Dr Singh told Setopati. "We can't call it scheduled meetings but he has started to meet people to discuss issues."
The doctors on Tuesday had decided to control number of visitors coming to meet PM Oli to prevent additional infection but have allowed him to meet ministers after improvement in his health.
PM Oli talked with defense, home and energy ministers Wednesday morning. "PM has slept well and eaten well. We have told him that he should remain at the hospital only for rest," the Rashtriya Samachar Samiti has quoted Chief of Cardiology Department Dr Arun Sayami as saying.
Hospital Director Dr Uttam Krishna Shrestha has said PM Oli has to be kept at the hospital for a couple of days to complete the course of antibiotics.
Oli was admitted at the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center at four Monday morning. A team of doctors including Dr Sayami, Dr Singh and pulmonologist Dr Santa Kumar Das are attending to him.
PM Oli has been ill for the past few days. He missed the tea party organized by CPN at Bhrikuti Mandap on Saturday due to health problems. He was advised rest for three days but he attended the Sunday’s Cabinet meeting albeit for just 10 minutes. The meeting was earlier scheduled for Friday but was postponed in the eleventh hour apparently due to his poor health.
PM Oli had a kidney transplant 11 years ago and uses immunosuppressants to ensure that his immune system does not attack the foreign organ. A minor infection can have serious implications due to the compromised immune system. He has been going to Bangkok, Thailand for routine check-ups in recent years.
