Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli, who is down with cold and fever for the past couple of days, has been admitted at the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center inside the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) premises at four Monday morning.
“His temperature dropped yesterday itself but coughing could not be stopped. We took him to hospital at four in the morning,” an official with the PM’s secretariat told Setopati. “PM Oli is currently in the hospital.”
PM Oli has been ill for the past few days. He missed the tea party organized by the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) at Bhrikuti Mandap on Saturday due to health problems. He was advised rest for three days but he attended the Sunday’s Cabinet meeting albeit for just 10 minutes. The meeting was earlier scheduled for Friday but was postponed in the eleventh hour apparently due to his poor health.
PM Oli had a kidney transplant 11 years ago and uses immunosuppressants to ensure that his immune system does not attack the foreign organ. A minor infection can have serious implications due to the compromised immune system. He has been going to Bangkok, Thailand for routine check-ups in recent years.
