Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Matrika Yadav has rebuked the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the parliament for instructing the ministry to fix the price of sugar at Rs 63 per kilogram.
Organizing a press conference at the ministry of Friday, Minister Yadav has sarcastically asked the PAC to fix price of every item. "It would be better if the PAC were to fix price of everything. It has asked us to fix a price of Rs 63 for sugar. They have all the information. It may be better if they were to set the price themselves," he said.
The PAC on Wednesday had instructed the ministry to fix the price of sugar at Rs 63. The PAC had given the instruction saying price of sugar has been raised up to Rs 85 despite sugar manufacturers promising to not raise price of sugar above Rs 63 when the government banned its import.
Minister Yadav, however, claimed that there was no agreement on price of sugar.
