Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Baskota has intervened to stop decision of the Development Committee of the parliament on Thursday.
Chairman of the committee Kalyani Khadka was preparing to include appointment of managing director (MD) of Nepal Telecom through free competition among the instructions given to the government at the end of the meeting.
Minister Baskota, who was present in the meeting along with Chairman of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) Digambar Jha, then asked who writes the decision. "NT has its own law and MD is appointed accordingly," he added curtly.
Khadka did not include appointment of MD in the decision after that.
The position is vacant since the Cabinet meeting on August 14 sacked Kamini Rajbhandari. Rajbhandari was asked to furnish explanation twice after the KP Sharma Oli government was formed. The government then sacked her stating that she could not provide satisfying explanations.
