The special committee for parliamentary hearing has unanimously endorsed Om Prakash Mishra for the post of chief justice on Monday.
The committee unanimously endorsed Mishra following a hearing Monday morning, oldest member of the committee Laxman Lal Karna confirmed with Setopati.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari will appoint Mishra as chief justice now that he has been endorsed by the parliamentary committee.
The committee on Sunday held discussion with complainants against Mishra on Sunday.
The special committee had received four complaints against Mishra but one of them has taken back the complaint.
The complaints accuse him of registering public land in the name of individuals and connivance in tax evasion of Ncell through an interim order among others.
He has been accused of taking bribe in the case of former DIG of Armed Police Force (APF) Ranjan Koirala. Sabitri Subedi, who is currently campaigning against rape, has accused Mishra of reducing jail term of Koirala convicted for murder of his wife. Subedi and a few others even demonstrated against Mishra at Maitighar Mandala on Wednesday.
He has also been accused of giving a verdict in favor of his relative and giving clean chit to four accused including one Dilli Swar in Kalikot.
The complainants have also raised questions about Mishra’s migration as his educational certificates are from India. They have complained that he has not even got equivalence certified.
He has been accused of giving an order of registering 36 ropanis and six annas of land in Handigaun worth around Rs 2 billion in the name of a fake tenant.
The Constitutional Council had recommended Mishra for the post on August 23. Mishra has been recommended after the special committee for parliamentary hearing rejected Dipak Raj Joshi who was recommended earlier.
