Sachindra, the son of former chief justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, has filed an application seeking security protection.
He submitted the application to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office in Rani Pokhari on Sunday, requesting necessary security arrangements.
"Given the responsibilities I previously held in state organs and the judicial decisions I executed in the capacity of the head of the state's judiciary, I have felt an increased sense of insecurity," the letter submitted by Sachindra on behalf of Cholendra states, adding that the application was therefore filed to request additional security.
Deputy Inspector General Govinda Thapaliya of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office confirmed that the application had been received.
He said that police had deployed plainclothes personnel for security after receiving the application.
“He had requested security. Accordingly, we have already deployed plainclothes police personnel,” Thapaliya said.
Police had taken former chief justice Rana into custody from his residence in Bansbari around midnight, saying there was a security threat, and taken him to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku.
After keeping him there for 10 hours, police handed him over to his family and sent him home.
Police have maintained that Rana was brought in because of a “security threat” and that he was not arrested.
However, police have not disclosed who issued the threat or what kind of threat was made. Police have also not been able to arrest the person who allegedly issued the threat.
