Durga Prasai has been arrested by police.
A team from the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police arrested him from his residence on Monday morning.
Prasai had made remarks on social media targeting Rachana Khatiwada, a ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker who is also the mother of a martyr. Khatiwada had spoken about the remarks in Parliament.
Police arrested Prasai over those remarks.
According to Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Giri, spokesperson for the Cyber Bureau, Prasai was arrested based on a complaint regarding his remarks about lawmaker Khatiwada.
Prasai had targeted Khatiwada with the statement that she had “traded her son’s body for the post of lawmaker.”
Police said that Prasai was arrested after obtaining an arrest warrant from the court.
SP Giri said that an investigation would be launched against Prasai under the Electronic Transactions Act.
