Landslides triggered by four days of continuous rainfall have buried houses at several locations in Palpa district.
Two people have died in the landslides.
According to the District Police Office, Palpa, 75-year-old Sher Bahadur Chidi of Rupse Rajauli in Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-2 and 59-year-old Krishna Kumari Saru of Thimure in Ribdikot Rural Municipality-6 died in the landslides.
Bhimlal Bhattarai, information officer at the District Police Office, Palpa, said that Saru’s body was recovered during a search after she went missing when a landslide buried her house in Thimure.
Police said that Chidi also died after being buried by a landslide that fell from the hillside above his house in Rupse Rajauli.
Meanwhile, landslides have buried the cattle sheds of Rail Bahadur Damai and Govinda Bahadur Sunari in Janewa Khola, Chidipani, Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-1. Their houses are also at high risk, and livestock have been buried by the landslide.
Ward Chairman Raj Kumar Panthi said that a team of the Armed Police Force was heading to the area to rescue Sunari, who has a severe disability, and other affected families.
Similarly, a landslide that occurred on Sunday morning in Bhaisikatta, Kaseni, Mathagadhi Rural Municipality-3, completely buried the house of Lil Bahadur Gharti Magar.
Police said 75-year-old Lil Bahadur Gharti, 15-year-old Jharana Gharti, and 17-year-old Dina Gharti, who were sleeping inside the house, are missing. Police said Jharana is the daughter of neighbor Motilal Gharti.
