A landslide has occurred at Krishna Bhir along the Prithvi Highway.
The section had been operating on a newly constructed track after the road subsided on August 30 due to flooding in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Dahal of the District Police Office, Dhading, said that the gabion wall built to protect the new track has collapsed.
“The landslide had been occurring since early morning. The gabion wall along the old road has caved in,” he said.
He said that the new track has not been affected so far, but there is a risk as the Trishuli River continues to erode the road from below, causing further landslides.
DSP Dahal said that landslides have also occurred at Terang Khola and Jyamire Ghat in Benighat Rural Municipality-10.
Chief District Officer Laxmi Pandeya said that small landslides had been occurring at Krishna Bhir since Thursday night.
She said that landslides had occurred at seven locations along the Prithvi Highway.
“Landslides occurred at seven locations, including Juwa Khola, Jyamire, Parewa Bhir, Kamere Bhir, and Jahare. In some places, work is underway to clear the landslides using JCB excavators,” she said.
Following continued rainfall and the resulting landslides, the district administration has closed the highway until further notice.
