DNA testing to be used to identify victims of Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods

DNA testing will be conducted to help identify those who died in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood on August 26.

According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Education on Monday, relatives of people who remain missing due to the flood can contact the authorities to request DNA testing to identify a recovered body or body parts believed to belong to their family member.

To compare with the DNA of a missing person, a blood sample will be required from one of the first-degree relatives – either the mother, father, daughter, or son.

The notice states that relatives should contact the pathology laboratory at Nepal Police Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, or the nearest District Police Office. They are required to bring two passport-size photographs.
