One person has died after an explosion occurred while explosives were being disposed of at an army post in Rasuwa district on Monday.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Thapa at the District Police Office, Rasuwa, the explosion occurred at around 11 a.m. inside an army post in Manchet, Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality-3.
Seven people were injured in the incident, one of whom later died. The deceased has been identified as Sonam Ghale, a local resident of Aamachhodingmo-4 who was working at a hydropower project.
DSP Thapa said that some explosives used by the Langtang Bhote Koshi Hydropower Project had been taken to the army post for disposal. The explosion occurred during the disposal process.
According to DSP Thapa, three of the injured are receiving treatment at the district hospital, while two soldiers and one employee were airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment at the Nepal Army’s Chhauni Hospital.
Nepal Army spokesperson and Brigadier General Raja Ram Basnet said that the explosion occurred while expired explosives belonging to the hydropower project were being destroyed at a firing range.
“Four people were injured when an explosion occurred while expired explosives from the hydropower project were being destroyed at the firing range. The injured who are in serious condition have already been brought to Kathmandu by an army helicopter for treatment,” Basnet said.
Basnet said that he had not yet received information about the reported death.
