Record-holding mountaineer Pur Bahadur Gurung (Yukta), a native of Laprak in Gorkha, has been cremated following a funeral procession.
Gurung’s last rites were performed on Friday in Swayambhu, Kathmandu.
Gurung and nine other climbers died in an avalanche last Thursday while attempting to climb Broad Peak in Pakistan.
Home Minister Sudan Gurung draped the national flag, and Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa draped the party flag over Gurung's body to offer their respects and tribute. Gurung was also a member of the Nepali Congress.
Gurung's body was brought to Kathmandu on Thursday afternoon.
Gurung had successfully summited Mount Everest 10 times.
Meanwhile, residents in his native village of Laprak also paid tribute by lighting lamps.
