It has been revealed that one of the three people who went missing after a car plunged into the Sunkoshi River in Sindhuli is a CPN-UML leader.
On Monday, a car plunged into the Sunkoshi River along the Mid-Hills Highway in Nawalpur, Phikkal Rural Municipality-2, after being hit by a bus bearing the registration number Bagmati Province 08-001 Kha 0144.
Among the occupants of the car was Dil Kumar Lama, an 11th general convention representative of the UML.
In the 2017 local level elections, he was elected as the ward chairman of Jugal Rural Municipality-7.
"An inspector called earlier saying our former ward chairman, Lama bhai, has gone missing," said Rabi Tamang, ward chairman of Jugal-7.
According to him, Lama had recently been involved in the construction business.
The other two missing persons are 28-year-old Ganesh Thapa, a resident of Golanjor Rural Municipality-1 in Sindhuli district, and another individual whose address has not been established.
Following reports of the car accident, a rescue team including divers from the Armed Police Force Nepal Disaster Management Base, Khurkot, has been deployed for search operations. The team is led by Inspector Nirendra Gurung.
A team from Nepal Police has also been mobilized to search for the missing car.
The driver of the bus has been taken into custody by Nepal Police.
