Dambar Bahadur Tamang, a squatter arrested from the holding center in Kirtipur, has been released after posting bail of Rs 10,000.
Tamang was arrested after threatening to enter Singha Durbar with a khukuri (traditional Nepali knife) if the government failed to make proper arrangements for squatters.
Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, said that Tamang was released on Monday after posting bail.
“The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, had sought bail of Rs 10,000 from him yesterday. He was released after submitting the amount,” SP Bhattarai said.
Police had initiated an investigation against Tamang for offenses against public peace following his remarks during an interview that he would enter Singha Durbar with a khukuri.
Following his arrest, other squatters had organized protests demanding his release.
