The custody of Durga Prasai, coordinator of the Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti Tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan, has been extended on two charges.
On Tuesday, the Parsa District Court extended Prasai’s remand for investigation into charges related to the Electronic Transactions Act (cybercrime) and offenses against the state, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Bahadur Basnet.
The police have been granted permission to keep Prasai in custody for 3 days.
He faces allegations of making various controversial statements through social media.
"He made indecent and unhealthy critical statements against public morality and decorum, aiming to spread hatred or hostility against individuals, disrupt harmonious relations among various castes and communities, and incite hatred, hostility, or contempt against the Government of Nepal by making baseless or unverified claims regarding the government or its actions," reads the statement issued by the police.
Prasai was arrested by police on Monday night from Hotel Siddhartha Diyalo in Birgunj.
