Ram Bahadur Bomjon, popularly known as "Little Buddha," has been acquitted in a money laundering case too.
A bench of Judge Mahendra Raj Kafle at the Sarlahi District Court acquitted Bomjon.
On April 21, the bench delivered its verdict in the money laundering case, where a claim of Rs 85.9 million had been sought against him.
Following the court's ruling that the charges could not be sustained, Bomjon has been released from the Sarlahi Prison Office, according to police.
Previously, the court had sent Bomjon to judicial custody for trial in this case.
The claim sought against Bomjon in the case included his land worth Rs 6.4 million in Chitwan and other cash from him.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police had arrested Bomjon in Kathmandu on January 9, 2024, after a lengthy investigation. At the time of his arrest, authorities seized currencies from 17 different countries equivalent to Rs 3.09 million, along with Rs 33.4 million in Nepali currency.
Meanwhile, a child sexual abuse case against him remains sub judice in the Supreme Court.
Previously, on July 1, 2024, a bench of Judge Jeevan Kumar Bhandari of the Sarlahi District Court had sentenced Bomjon to 10 years in prison and ordered him to pay Rs 500,000 in compensation to the victim.
However, a bench of Judges Narishwar Bhandari and Khemraj Bhatta at the Janakpur High Court overturned the verdict on March 19, 2025, acquitting Bomjon.
The Office of the Attorney General subsequently decided to appeal that acquittal, and the matter is currently pending in the Supreme Court.
