Six people have died in a bus accident in Ramechhap district.
A passenger bus fell into the Tamakoshi River on Tuesday at Triveni Ghat, Manthali Municipality-6.
Chief District Officer Shyam Krishna Thapa confirmed that six people died in the accident. According to him, the bus bearing registration number Province 3-01-005 Kha 9975 veered off the road and plunged into the Tamakoshi River.
Eight injured individuals have been rescued and taken to hospital.
"Five bodies were recovered from inside the bus, and one was found drifting," Thapa said. "The exact number of people on board the bus has not been confirmed. According to the driver's statement, there were 20-22 people. However, only 13 were recorded at the counter. Efforts are underway to pull the bus to the shore using a dozer."
Teams from the District Police Office, Ramechhap; Armed Police Force Battalion, Ramechhap; and Disaster Management Base, Khurkot, have been mobilized to the accident site for rescue operations.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa, co-spokesperson for the Armed Police Force, divers have been deployed to rescue people.
