Police have opened fire to arrest an individual involved in stealing gold jewelry in the Bouddha area of Kathmandu.
Chief of the Kathmandu Police Range SSP Ramesh Thapa informed that Prem Tharu, also known as Bikash, was arrested Wednesday night after shots were fired. He was apprehended from Mahankal, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6.
SSP Thapa stated that the police fired shots following a clash during the arrest. Tharu has sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Tharu is accused of stealing 65 tolas of gold jewelry.
At around Tuesday noon, 42 tolas of gold and silver jewelry were stolen from a house located in Kumarigal, Bouddha. Tharu is said to be involved in that incident. The theft occurred on the fourth floor while the residents of the five-story house were on the roof. The door hinge of the room where the theft took place was found broken.
SSP Thapa informed that further investigation is underway regarding the arrested suspect.
