Lalitpur Metropolitan City has decided to turn the Patan Durbar Square area into a vehicle-free zone.
Lalitpur Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan announced that the Patan Durbar Square area will be made a vehicle-free zone in a phased manner. The program has been named “Patan Paila Pailaima.”
According to him, since Patan a vehicle-free zone is an extremely challenging task, the program will be implemented in two phases.
“We are implementing this program in two phases,” he said. “We expect and believe that the local residents of Patan will also support us in this.”
Mayor Maharjan admitted that since this is happening for the first time, it will be somewhat difficult, but he made it clear that the plan is to make this a long-term initiative.
In the first phase, Mamadu Galli, the areas from Gaurishankar Temple to Olkhu Ganesh Temple, from Bhimshensthan Temple to Swotha Narayan Temple, and from Swotha Chowk to Kyalakhu Chowk will be vehicle-free zones.
Entry of vehicles into these areas will be prohibited from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on November 29, December 3 and December 6. Vehicles will also be prohibited from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on December 10 and December 13 in these areas.
In the second phase, Tichugalli, and the area from Mangal Bazaar Chowk to Chakra Bahil Chowk will be restricted from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Vehicle entry will be prohibited in the same area from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on December 31 and January 3.
