Two persons were killed when the army opened fire during a prison riot at the Ramechhap Jail.
Inmates had been protesting, demanding to be released, and a clash broke out while trying to stop them, according to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information of Nepal Army. Two persons died and 12 inmates were injured when the army opened fire to take the situation under control.
Many inmates are reportedly escaping from various prisons across the country including the Nakkhu and Central Jails. The army is currently searching for the escaped prisoners.
So far, 192 inmates attempting to flee from the Rajbiraj Jail in Saptari have been apprehended by the army. In Kanchanpur, the Indian Border Security Force detained seven inmates near Chandani and handed them over to the Nepal Army. Additionally, one inmate was captured by locals and turned over to the Area Police Office, while 12 others voluntarily returned to jail.
