A case has been filed against Sujit KC, coordinator of the National Democratic Youth Front, a sister organization of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), who had written a Facebook post about Hilton Hotel and Jaybir Deuba.
The District Government Attorney’s Office, Kathmandu, filed the case against KC under the Electronic Transactions Act on Thursday at the Kathmandu District Court.
Some time ago, KC had posted a status on Facebook regarding the purchase of Hilton Hotel by Jaybir, the son of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
"A scheme to launder black money acquired through corruption! Jaybir Singh Deuba, son of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Foreign Minister Arzu Deuba, has purchased the Hilton Hotel located in Naxal, Kathmandu," he wrote on the Facebook post, which also included a photo of Jaybir.
KC later removed the post.
KC was arrested on May 16 after a complaint was lodged at the Cyber Bureau regarding the matter. He was later released through a habeas corpus petition after a week in custody.
KC, who is also a practicing advocate, had filed a writ of habeas corpus in the Supreme Court, arguing that the police had detained him illegally.
On May 21, a Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Bal Krishna Dhakal and Nityananda Pandeya ordered his release on personal guarantee.
On Thursday, the government attorney filed a case regarding the matter in the Kathmandu District Court.
Earlier, Shanker Group had denied reports that Jaybir Deuba had purchased the Hilton Hotel. The hotel issued a statement clarifying that its original founders remain unchanged.
